MISMO Seeks Public Comment on New Engineering Guideline for Extending a Standard MISMO XML Schema

WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 12, 2023) — MISMO®, the real estate finance industry's standards organization, today announced that it is seeking public comment on a new MISMO Engineering Guideline (MEG) for Extending a Standard MISMO XML Schema (MEG 0025). The 30-day public comment period runs through November 9, 2023.

The MISMO MEGs ensure that MISMO work products adhere to all applicable technology standards, are produced in a consistent fashion, and meet the needs of the mortgage industry.  

MEG 0025 provides guidance on how to extend the MISMO Version 3.x XML schema. Additionally, the MISMO’s Version 3.x (v3.x) XML architecture provides an orderly way of “extending” a MISMO schema — enabling a message to hold additional data needed for mortgage processing that is not included in each MISMO XML schema version. The public comment period allows those who participated in the proposal at least 30-days’ notice prior to final release to review and disclose any applicable Patent Rights (as defined by MISMO’s 2018 Intellectual Property Rights Policy).

MISMO requests that any organization that may have any patent or patent applications, or other intellectual property rights that might be infringed upon by an organization that uses or is compliant with these proposed MISMO products, to disclose them at this time in writing.
