What is the Remote Online Notarization Development Workgroup?
As RON has seen its popularity and usage grow across the industry, the RON workgroup is working to clarify MISMO's RON Standard V1 and investigate the need to update it as MISMO RON Standard V2. Potential updates include new system requirements on electronic records and signatures, updated guidelines on credential analysis and system updates to enable modifications to the notarial certificate and an enhanced ability to store an eJournal.
The group is collaborating with eClosing Vendors, Document Vendors, RON Vendors, Title Underwriters, the National Notary Association, state government officials and others to review and update MISMO's standards for remote online notarization. These standards
- Reduce friction between partners involved in the eClosing transaction.
- Eliminate varying rules across states by providing a single source that a Secretary of State can cite with guidance.
- Contribute to industry confidence in eClose Transactions which can ultimately influence overall Digital Mortgage adoption.
How to Join
Anyone may participate in a MISMO development workgroup or community of practice regardless of membership status. Voting members of Information Management and Architecture Workgroup are elected as per governance procedures. Membership in MISMO is open to anyone - mortgage lenders, banks, credit unions, servicers, vendors, government agencies and more. MISMO members receive a voice, and vote, in creating and enhancing industry standards used by the entire industry. Learn more here.
