What is the Decision Modeling Community of Practice?

The Decision Modeling Community of Practice facilitates and promotes the creation and interoperability of business decisions within the mortgage industry. The group provides best practice guidance on how to satisfy common mortgage industry use cases, and we demonstrate how to seamlessly incorporate the MISMO data model in the creation of decision models.

This is done using the Decision Model and Notation (DMN), an OMG standard that defines how rules are expressed as decision points within a business process. The DMN standard is now the MISMO-approved standard for documentation, implementation, execution and exchange of business rules and decisions across the mortgage industry.

DMN defines a common visual modeling language to represent decisions. DMN decision models may be directly executed by platforms that conform to the DMN standard. Some DMN-conforming tools may publish DMN standard models as MISMO API Toolkit conforming APIs.  

Decision models expressed using the Decision Model and Notation standard naturally use terms from the MISMO Business Glossary, and decisions expressed in DMN are included in business processes from the MISMO Business Process Model. The interaction will naturally adapt as new work groups are established.
