What is the Business Glossary Community of Practice?

Industry-wide use of a common language is critical for effective, efficient, and flexible business practices. A common language helps mitigate risk, improves consumer understanding and satisfaction, and reduces costs. MISMO has succeeded in creating a common terminology that is used for communication between lenders, service providers, regulators, and others. While existing MISMO standards have greatly improved business-to-business technology communications, their (often necessary) complexity has made it difficult for non-technical industry participants (i.e., business users) to understand and utilize the standards. MISMO participants determined that a creating a Business Glossary would reduce complexity and enable broader use of MISMO terminology.

The Business Glossary Community of Practice was created to address this need. The MISMO Business Glossary will give business-oriented professionals access to clear, understandable terms and definitions, as well as links explaining how data are used in various business processes and filtered views of the model.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain a business-friendly mortgage industry glossary terms
• Release new publications of the glossary incorporating MISMO standards and industry feedback

Current Focus:

• Routine updates to the MISMO Business Glossary
• Build awareness of the MISMO Business Glossary across the mortgage industry
